To be eligible for in-car training, students must be at least 18 years old and have a valid Illinois Instruction Permit, Illinois Driver’s License, or a Driver’s License issued by your country of origin (international Driver’s Licenses are not accepted in Illinois). If you do not currently have a permit, we recommend taking our 6-hour online course to prepare for the Written Permit Exam at the Illinois Secretary of State’s office. Students from out of the country may drive on their country-of-origin license for no more than 90 days after entering the country.
No, adults (18+) in Illinois are not required to take driving lessons to get a license. While it’s highly recommended for safety and skill development, it’s not a legal mandate for licensing at that age.
